Watch out, Doomtree. The hottest ticket in town next weekend might not be the Blowout VIII shows at First Avenue, but rather the Okee Dokee Brothers at the Cedar Cultural Center. After last night's announcement that the Twin Cities-based twang-pickin' duo earned a Grammy nomination for best children's album with their summer-in-a-jar album "Can You Canoe?," their 11 a.m. concert at the Cedar on Dec. 15 has nearly sold out. So the venue went ahead and added a second show that day for 2 p.m. Those tickets are on sale now ($10, or $8 kids 2-12).

As Okee co-brother Joe Mailander told us back in May when the CD came out, "Can You Canoe?" was all about "encouraging families to get out and enjoy the outdoors more." The songs were all written during a paddling excursion Mailander and partner Justin Lansing took the previous summer down the Mississippi River. That idea caught on with rock and Roll Hall of Famer Garth Hudson of the Band, who agreed to contribute accordion to the album. We singled it out as "the best kids album in quite a while" after listening to the album all summer. Clearly, it caught on with Minnesota families and Grammy voters, too.
