The Gophers women's basketball team will be part of a stellar eight-team field at the inaugural Women's Battle 4 Atlantis tournament from Nov. 20-22, and it will open in the Bahamas against All-America guard Paige Bueckers and UConn.

Bueckers, who starred at Hopkins High School, helped UConn reach the Final Four during her freshman season in 2020-21, when she won the Wooden Award as the nation's top women's player. Four other teams in the field played in last spring's NCAA tournament: South Carolina, Oregon, Syracuse and South Florida.

On the second day of the tournament at Atlantis Paradise Island, the Gophers will face South Florida or Syracuse. They will finish the tournament on Nov. 22 against one of four teams from the other side of the bracket: Oregon, Oklahoma, South Carolina or Buffalo.

This will be the third meeting between the Gophers and UConn. They last met at the 2004 Final Four when current Minnesota coach Lindsay Whalen was the Gophers' starting point guard.

The Gophers were 8-13 last season.
