MANKATO – The No. 6 Gophers continued their dominance over Minnesota State Mankato, defeating the Mavericks 5-2 on Saturday afternoon for their 37th victory in a row over their in-state rival.

Centers Taylor Wente and Sophie Skarzynski each had a goal and an assist for Minnesota (7-4-1, 6-3-1 WCHA), which led only 3-2 after Hannah Davidson scored for the Mavericks (2-7-1, 1-5) midway through the third period.

The home team's hopes of an upset were soon dimmed when the Gophers scored twice in less than two minutes. Nicole Schammel's goal at 12:12 made it 4-2 Gophers and then Skarzynski made it a three-goal game.

The Gophers took a 2-1 lead in the first period on Wente's goal with 18 seconds left. Cara Piazza of Minnesota opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Lindsay Coleman of the Mavericks answered with a power-play goal in the 11th minute.

Lindsay Agnew of Minnesota had the lone goal of the second period.
