Update: Rashad Vaughn's mentor, Pete Kaffey, tells Travis Hines from the Ames Tribune that the shooting guard also has an official visit scheduled to Iowa State on November 17.
Gophers recruiting: catching up on Tyus, Travis, Tum Tum and more
It's that time of year -- when coaches and recruits are on the move, decisions looming. What's going on with Minnesota's hopefuls?

This time of year, the recruiting scene, after a bit of a late summer lull, starts to really heat up again. Decisions start to be made and favorites speculated, as coaches make last-ditch efforts for the guys they hope to eventually put on their roster. Right about now, there is plenty of movement, both with coaches traveling to recruits and recruits traveling to coaches. Let's check in on a little of what is going on with Gophers' targets currently.
JP Macura: Thought by many to be a good candidate to stay home, the 6-5 guard dispelled that hope yesterday when he tweeted that he has officially committed to Xavier.
Reid Travis: The DeLaSalle forward was recently offered by Duke, and subsequently tweeted a list of 7: Minnesota, Gonzaga, Michigan State, Georgetown, Notre Dame and Duke. So you're saying there's still a chance. … Also, Travis is expecting visits from Minnesota, Duke, Notre Dame and Michigan State this week, as well Georgetown, according to our Jason Gonzalez.
Travis' father, Nate, told Gonzalez: "Should have a clear picture after all official visits are done."
Rashad Vaughn: Two officials have been set, longtime mentor Pete Kaffey told Rivals' Ryan James – to North Carolina on Sept. 27 and Baylor on Oct. 18. Those are the only two at this time. Vaughn's family hosted an in-home visit in Golden Valley from Baylor yesterday and are expected to have Kansas and UNC as guests later this week.
Tyus Jones: The Apple Valley point guard told James that Duke will visit him in-house tonight, and Minnesota, Kentucky, Kansas and possibly Baylor will be in town for home visits this week. Jones officially visited Baylor over Labor Day weekend with Chicago buddy Jahlil Okafor.
Wade Baldwin: On Sept. 1, Baldwin tweeted his verbal commit to Vanderbilt, following an official visit there, a spontaneity he had said might be a possibility. Previously, Baldwin had a visit scheduled for Minnesota on the weekend of Sept. 21.
Paul White: The Chicago wing made his first official, to Miami, over this past weekend. The Hurricanes weren't on White's original list of five, but appear to be now. White will also visit Georgetown this coming weekend and UConn (Sept. 27) before landing in the Twin Cities on the weekend of Oct. 4. White has DePaul scheduled for Oct. 25, which would make it seem as if Arizona is the school getting edged out.
Josh Martin: The Seattle power forward was visited in his home by Pittsburgh's assistant coach Barry Rohrssen last night. Next up for Martin is an official to Florida State on Sept. 14. He is set to visit Minnesota on Sept. 20.
Lourawls (Tum Tum) Nairn: After the Kansas floor general's first official to Minnesota over Labor Day, Nairn was in Oklahoma this past weekend. He will visit the last of his three favorites, Indiana, on Sept. 21. I'm hoping to touch base with him soon about his experience in Gopher land – he can be tough to reach, as many recruits are this time of year.
Isaiah Whitehead: Minnesota and Pittsburgh are expected to do in-home visits with Whitehead this week.
