Fresh off being endorsed by his party, Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer Monday headed off on a statewide fly around of Minnesota with a pledge to "put Minnesota back on the road to prosperity."

"We're going to take back this state and start to run things the way we expect," Emmer said at his first stop at the Minnesota Capitol.

Emmer said outgoing Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a Republican, has done a "fabulous job" but "it's time to take back this state from the career bureaucrats....take it back from government and give it back to the people."

He said his plan to redesign government would be rooted in the Minnesota Policy Blueprint directed by Emmer's running mate Annette Meeks and produced by from the Center of the American Experiment.

Last week, Emmer said the Arizona law that authorizes local police to crackdown on immigration. He expanded on his comments a bit on Monday.

"I think the Arizona law is a great first step, I did say that. But you know, Minnesota is not Arizona," Emmer said. "In Arizona, they're simply saying let's enforce the federal law. I think that's a great first step...I think we should recognize laws."

Emmer, Meeks and the Republican candidates for attorney general, state auditor and secretary of state will also make stops in
Rochester, Mankato, Alexandria, Moorhead and Duluth Monday.
