GOP Attorney General candidate says the state should sue over health care

Chris Barden plans a state tour to say that the state should assert its 10th amendment rights and sue.

Republican Attorney General candidate Chris Barden, who has made a challenge to the federal health care reform a key facet of his campaign, set off Tuesday on a statewide tour to bash the health care package as unconstitutional.

In a press conference littered with GOP buzz words -- ACORN, "Obamacare," photo id, the 10th amendment all came up -- Barden said that if he were attorney general he would join other states' lawsuit against the health care package.

If he were attorney general, "I think I could join very quickly," he said.

(Earlier this year, Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty asked Democratic Attorney General Lori Swanson to join the suit on Minnesota's behalf. She denied that request. Pawlenty said in April that he would join it himself. As of June that hadn't yet happened.)

Barden said after decades of Democrats being in charge of the Attorney General's office it is time for a "cleansing." He also said he would promote "election integrity" as attorney general.
