The pair of Canada geese we were so pleased to see nesting on the pond behind our house abandoned the nest three days ago. I wrote about it. They went away. This did give me an opportunity, however, to canoe out to the nesting platform and borrow two eggs for a photo. The smaller egg is a "large" chicken egg. I determine that the eggs were about eight days old by floating them in a pan of water. Newer eggs ride low, eggs closer to hatching date ride higher.
