Girls' hockey roundup: White Bear Lake shuts out Grand Rapids/Greenway

Sophomore Sydney Shearen scored two goals and added an assist to pace the 16th-ranked Bears.

Sydney Shearen scored two goals and had an assist to lead Class 2A, No. 16 White Bear Lake to a 4-0 victory over Grand Rapids/Greenway in the Turkey Trot Tournament opener Friday at the IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids.

Shearen opened the scoring on a rebound with 23 seconds left in the first period. The sophomore extended the Bears' lead with just over five minutes left in the second period off a backdoor pass from Ashley Healy.

The Bears made it 3-0 early in the third period when Dani Menk took a pass from Sally Morris and deked around the Lightning goaltender. Shearen assisted on the final goal late in the game by Claudia Verkerke.

Blaine 6, Hibbing/Chisolm 1: Gabby Rosenthal scored two goals to lead the Class 2A, No. 5 Bengals past the Bluejackets in the Turkey Trot Tournament. Paige Beebe had a goal and two assists and Sarah Ganley had two assists for the Bengals. The Bengals outshot the Bluejackets 47-10 for the game.

St. Paul United 5, New Prague 3: Joie Phelps had a goal and an assist to lead the Class 1A, No. 4 St. Paul United past the No. 7 Trojans. St. Paul United had five different goal scorers. Catie Skaja recorded a hat trick for the Trojans.

Minnehaha United 1, Marshall 0: Leah Lyngren broke a scoreless tie with 3:48 left to lift the Redhawks past the Tigers. Lauren Schommer stopped 19 shots to earn the shutout.

Chaska/Chanhassen 4, Prior Lake 0: Lydia Passolt scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Class 2A, No. 12 StormHawks past the Lakers. Maddy Fiedler had a goal and an assist and Emma Hinze had two assists for the StormHawks. Lindsay Lewison led the Lakers with 32 saves.

Champlin Park 5, Irondale 1: Kaylee Wood scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Rebels past the Knights. Myka Sutherland and Jordan Trapp had a goal and two assists each and Emily Schwartz had three assists for the Rebels. Abby Bollensen scored for the Knights.
