Gig poster artist DWITT hosts first solo show in 4 years

The man behind some of the music scene's most detailed rock posters (plus some really gory zombie posters) has a show at Big Table Studio Friday night.

Busybody poster art impresario DWITT came up with a great name for his first exhibition in four years: "Multifaceter." It just speaks to his overall output. The St. Paul artist is probably best known for his hyper-detailed, comic-book style rock posters, but he's branched out big time in recent years with party posters for the likes of the Zombie Pub Crawl and the Beer Dabbler brew fest. "Multifaceter" would make for a great low-budget horror movie name, which would fit right in with DWITT's ghoulish artistic tendencies.

"Multifaceter" premieres Friday night at Big Table Studio, the new gallery/studio next to the Amsterdam Bar & Hall in St. Paul. The party, 7-10 p.m., will feature a performance by acclaimed singer-songwriter Ben Weaver.

DWITT has produced almost 500 gig posters in the last decade. Here an idea of what you'll see at Multifaceter (courtesy of Big Table): "Multifaceter is filled with wild caricatures, surreal swirling visages, and overlapping abstract heads. Working with ink on stretched canvas, wood panels, and heavy board, along with pencil drawings on paper and a series of screen prints, DWITT catalogs the ever changing face and style of his mental landscape while putting on display his mastery of line work."

Take a look at a recent Mastodon poster by DWITT here. He also created the poster for Hymie's outdoor show on Record Store Day (April 21) – check it out here (he had the idea for releasing music via helium balloon before Jack White).

One of my favorite posters is DWITT's incredibly-detailed Zombie Pub Crawl VII map from last year:
