ANAHEIM, CALIF. -- Kyle Gibson, the Twins top pitching prospect, is heading to Minnesota on Sunday to have his right elbow examined after being placed on the disabled list Tuesday by Class AAA Rochester.

Gibson had an MRI exam, and the Twins want their doctors to look at it and examine him.

"You're always concerned it might be his ulnar nerve," Twins minor league director Jim Rantz said. "I think we've got to wait for a reading from our doctors. There's enough concern that we're bringing him to Minnesota."

* Rochester RHP Anthony Slama also is heading to Minnesota to have his right elbow examined. He has been on the DL, and his elbow hasn't been getting better.

* Rochester activated RHP Carlos Gutierrez from the DL. He'll take Gibson's spot on the roster.

Revere moves to left field

Denard Span and Ben Revere will both be in the outfield Wednesday night, with Span in center and Revere in left, as the Twins face the Angels, trying to snap a three-game losing streak.

Span is leading off, Revere is batting second, and Delmon Young is batting seventh, as the DH.

* Manager Ron Gardenhire said he wanted to put as many lefthanded hitters as possible in the lineup against Angels righthander Joel Pineiro. Jim Thome came in with a little bit of a stiff neck, so he'll get the night off, but Matt Tolbert, a switch hitter, is in at second base instead of the righthanded hitting Trevor Plouffe.

Baker's turn

Scott Baker gets the start for the Twins. He ranks seventh in the American League with a 2.86 ERA. He hasn't allowed a home run over his past seven starts, going 5-2 with a 1.31 ERA, 42 strikeouts and eight walks.

Quick fact: Joe Mauer is a .700 career hitter (14-for-20) against Angels starter Joel Pineiro.
