Amy Rice: Root Down

Rice's modestly sized acrylic paintings of plants, flowers, aquariums in unexpected places and rural Minnesota landscapes are a reminder that spring will come again. The most inventive works here bring a surrealist touch to the mix, like a painting of little fishes swimming impossibly inside a platter meant for pie, such as the ones found at diners. In another painting, we see only the back of an iconic red truck. In another subtle painting, two women walk together into a field of pink, yellow and purple, somewhere over the rainbow.
