They don't make 'em any nicer or more knowledgeable than Gil Brandt, the former Cowboys executive who now writes for NFL.com. He had a live online chat this morning. Here's the link.
Gil was asked about the Brett Favre-Brad Childress sideline spat, or whatever it was. Here was his response:
"I think Brett Favre is a very proud person. When you talk about taking him out -- even if it's because you are just concerned for his health, it rubs him the wrong way. It was probably the right move by Childress -- even though the Vikings were winning at the time, I think LB Chad Greenway was the only player on Minnesota that wasn't sleepwalking.
"As for the idea that Favre has been calling out of the running plays... Favre has been doing that forever. Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell is certainly no stranger to it. So this will not be a problem for the Vikings going forward."
Gil also was asked about Adrian Peterson's slump (it's weird saying a guy with AD's numbers is in a "slump," isn't it?). Here's Gil's take:
"Not sure why he hasn't broken out these last few weeks. He seems to have leveled out some, though, but he's still an outstanding player. Being an upright runner, it's not uncommon for a player like that to slow down a bit toward the end of the year. He does take an awful lot of hits."
