Robert Garrigus got hot with his short putter and shot a 4-under 66 to break out of a pack and grab a two-stroke lead Saturday over Robert Karlsson after three rounds at the St. Jude Classic.
It's the first time the 32-year-old Garrigus has led a PGA Tour event by himself, and he surged to the top of the leaderboard with four birdies and an eagle against two bogeys to reach 11-under 199.
Karlsson, who shot a 68, is within striking distance of becoming the first European to win this event. Lee Westwood had four bogeys and finished with a 71 that left him tied with Heath Slocum (66) at 8 under.
In other golf news: The third round of the LPGA State Farm Classic was postponed because of thunderstorms. Heavy rain suspended play for four hours before the round was halted with 46 players still on the course. The round is scheduled to resume at 7 a.m. Sunday, but rain is expected again. Second-round leader M.J. Hur and Cristie Kerr sit atop the leaderboard at 13 under. ... The United States swept all three fourball matches at the Curtis Cup on Saturday to take a 5.5-3.5 lead over Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup, which pits U.S. female amateurs against a team from Great Britain and Ireland.
AUTO RACING
Logano wins Meijer 300 Joey Logano became the first Nationwide Series driver to win three consecutive races at the same track when starting from the pole as he won the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Carl Edwards took second and Brad Keselowski finished third. Brendan Gaughan, whom Logano passed to take the lead for the final time, finished fourth.
In other racing news: McLaren's Lewis Hamilton won his third consecutive Canadian Grand Prix pole, stopping Red Bull's season-opening streak at seven. Hamilton took the top spot on his final lap in the third round of qualifying, edging Red Bull's Mark Webber with a time of 1 minute, 15.105 seconds at 2.709-mile Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. ... Nigel Mansell escaped serious injury after crashing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans just 18 minutes into the race. Mansell spent several minutes in his car but was conscious when he was evacuated in an ambulance. After nine hours, the Peugeot cars were holding the first two spots, with Franck Montagny leading Nicolas Lapierre by one lap.... Aric Almirola took the lead with less than 10 laps to go then held off late charges from Todd Bodine and Kyle Busch to win the NASCAR Trucks Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
