United FC gameday

3 P.M. AT EDMONTON • CLARKE STADIUM • ESPN3

Preview: United FC's last visit to Edmonton saw the Loons' 11-match unbeaten streak end. They aim to make this trip the start of something good after beginning the NASL spring season with zero victories in three matches. Also at stake, the Flyover Cup, a traveling trophy sponsored by the clubs' supporter groups.

United FC at a glance: A 2-2 draw last week before a sold-out crowd in Blaine saw the Loons (0-1-2) score their first two goals of the season. The effort and precision in the offensive third recalled last season when Minnesota led the NASL in scoring. The defense also played well as the Scorpions' goals came on a long free kick and a penalty shot. "We showed a lot more edge and determination against San Antonio to get after it and get those points," United FC outside defender Kevin Venegas said. "That was almost a restart of our season."

Edmonton at a glance: The Eddies (1-1-1) are seldom flashy but command an honest day's work from opponents. Strong defensively and capable of transitioning well, Edmonton FC forces foes to take care of the ball and quickly recover when things go awry. Ritchie Jones leads the team with two goals. "Edmonton is a tough place to play and they are a tough, physical, kind of ground-and-pound team," United FC midfielder Greg Jordan said. "I think we have more quality than they do, but we've got to match that physicality."
