Preview: The No. 6 seed Stars (9-11-10) and No. 1 seed San Antonio (13-8-8) played to a scoreless draw Oct. 6 at the National Sports Center in Blaine. Game 2 of the two-game, total-goal series decides whether the defending NASL champion Stars return to the finals to play Tampa Bay. The Stars are 0-1-4 against the Scorpions this season.

Stars at a glance: They played to a pair of draws at San Antonio's Heroes Stadium this season. ... The Sept. 23 meeting featured a game-tying second-half goal from Kevin Friedland. ... Defender Kyle Altman was voted to the NASL's Best XI team. The Stars captain logged 1,700 minutes this season and provided a steadying presence. ... The Stars outshot the Scorpions 12-8 on Oct. 6.

Scorpions at a glance: Led the NASL in goals scored (46) and fewest goals allowed (27). ... Pablo Campos led the NASL with 20 goals while Daryl Sattler's 0.79 goals-against average was the league's stingiest. ... Defender Jonathan Greenfield played in Minnesota for the now-defunct Thunder.
