Gaga sweeps MTV statue-distribution event; critics rage

The MTV Video Music Awards were last night, and just about everything went to Gaga: eight awards, including video of the year.

No one ever wondered whether a-ha and Gabriel were Bad For Western Culture, though. A-ha had won for a sweet, uptempo number with a clever video, and Gabriel's video was a masterpiece of stop-motion animation. Whether you think Gaga is in that league depends on your self-identification as a Little Monster, I suppose; Camille Paglia thinks she is neither All That nor a Bag of Chips, and rips her for being a showy, empty Madonna rip-off for an emotionally drained generation of perpetual children. Oh, she says she's a phony:

I think Flamethrower Bra is playing Bryant-Lake Bowl this weekend.
