Kendall Coyne Schofield scored her PWHL-leading fifth goal of the season and Nicole Hensley made 27 saves as the Frost beat the previously undefeated Boston Fleet 5-2 on Friday night at Grand Casino Arena.

Coyne Schofield scored the first goal of the game, poking in a rebound in the first period. Dominique Petrie scored on a tip-in, and the Frost went into the first intermission up 2-0.

After Fleet goalie Aerin Frankel stopped a breakaway early in the second period, the puck got away from her and Britta Curl-Salemme scored on the rebound.

“We just needed to get shots on net, get them up high, get traffic in front of her,” Frost coach Ken Klee said in his postgame news conference of scoring on Frankel. “I think we’ve had success in other games we’ve played against her when we’re able to create a little havoc in front.”

Boston swung momentum its way when it scored two goals in 23 seconds in the third period from Olivia Mobley and Riley Brengman.

With just over a minute left, the Fleet pulled Frankel, and the Frost, playing at home for the first time since losing their season opener to Toronto on Nov. 21, put away two empty-net goals to win at home for the first time this season.

“She was excellent,” Klee said of Hensley, who improved to 3-0 on the season. “You need good goaltending in this league to win, and she’s been awesome this year. I think every game she’s been in there, she’s been really dialed in.”

Frankel made 25 saves on 28 shots.

The Frost will play the Ottawa Charge in Chicago on Sunday as part of the league’s Takeover Tour.
