ROSEMONT, ILL. – One game after beating the undefeated PWHL leader, the Frost lost to the last-place team in the league.

Rookie Sarah Wozniewicz scored her first goal with 65 seconds left in overtime to rally the Ottawa Charge to a 3-2 victory over the two-time defending champion Frost on Sunday.

Wozniewicz secured an assist from former Gophers player Peyton Hemp to score the winner for the Charge (1-1-0-5) at 3:55 in the five-minute OT.

“We had plenty of opportunities,” Frost coach Ken Klee said at a postgame news conference. “It’s just about finishing at the right time. Obviously, they made a great shot at the end, but that’s hockey. It’s a close game.”

Ottawa took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a power-play goal by Ronja Savolainen, with assists from Kateřina Mrázová and Jocelyne Larocque.

The Frost (3-0-1-2), who beat Boston 5-2 on Friday for the Fleet’s first loss of the season, pulled even midway through the second on Britta Curl-Salemme’s second goal. Kelly Pannek and Mae Batherson assisted.

Brianne Jenner found the net for the third time this season, beating goalie Nicole Hensley on the power play with 4 seconds left in the second period to put the Charge up 2-1.

Batherson, a defender, scored her first career goal and tied the score at 2-2 four minutes into the final period on a power play, with another assist from Pannek and one from Kendall Cooper.

Gwyneth Philips finished with 21 saves in goal for Ottawa, including one in overtime. Three of Hensley’s 19 saves came in the extra period.

The game, part of the PWHL’s Takeover Tour playing games at neutral sites around North America, drew an announced 7,238 and is one of two PWHL games being played this season at Allstate Arena in suburban Chicago.

“Obviously not the result we wanted,” said Frost veteran Kendall Coyne Schofield, a Chicago-area native. “But at the end of the day, I think it was a win for the sport, it was a win for society. Was so proud to bring women’s professional hockey to Chicago.”

The Frost’s game Friday was only their second at home this season, and their first since the season opener Nov. 21. Because of the World Junior Championships at Grand Casino Arena, they are now away from home for five consecutive games, with their next game Saturday at Vancouver. They don’t return home until Jan. 11.
