Man dies of injuries suffered when he was hit by car in Columbia Heights

Erik R. Johnstone, 48, of Fridley, was hit after he stepped off a median at University and 40th avenues NE.

A Fridley man who was struck by a car in Columbia Heights last weekend has died from his injuries.

Erik R. Johnstone, 48, was hit after he stepped off a median at University and 40th avenues NE. about 6:50 p.m. on Dec. 15, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Preliminary reports indicate that he stepped into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the vehicle, Sandra Mary Jost, 21, of Chaska, showed no signs of impairment and cooperated with investigators, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The accident is being investigated by the Sheriff's Office, Columbia Heights police and the State Patrol.
