Maple Grove upsets visiting Armstrong

• MAPLE GROVE 66, ARMSTRONG 52: Sophomore guard Brad Davison scored 20 points to help the Crimson, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A boys' basketball, hand the visiting Falcons, who are ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, their first loss of the season. Reed Nikko, a 6-9 junior, scored 14 points — all in the second half — for the Crimson (8-0, 5-0 in the Northwest Suburban).

• EDEN PRAIRIE 106, MINNETONKA 86: The Eagles, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, built a 17-point halftime lead en route to remaining unbeaten. Grantham Gillard scored 25 points to lead the Eagles (8-0), who led 58-41 at halftime. Amar Miller scored 31 points — making 18 of 20 free throws — to lead the Skippers, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A.

• APPLE VALLEY 79 FARMINGTON 46: Jordan Boltan scored 16 points and Brock Bertram had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Eagles, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, to the South Suburban victory over the visiting Tigers. Gary Trent Jr. scored 13 points and Tre Jones, the younger brother of Tyus Jones, added 10 points for the Eagles. The Eagles shot 56 percent from the field and outscored the Tigers 20-1 from the free throw line. The Eagles attempted 28 free throws, the Tigers two.

• EASTVIEW 56, LAKEVILLE NORTH 55: Sean Ryan's free throw with no time on the clock lifted the Lightning to the South Suburban Conference victory. Ryan, a junior guard, was fouled on a three-point field goal attempt at the buzzer. Ryan scored 15 points to help the Lightning rally from a 29-22 halftime deficit. Connor Flack scored 29 points to lead the Panthers.

• ANOKA 73, IRONDALE 50: The Tornadoes outscored Irondale 44-28 in the second half to pull away for their first victory of the season. Jason Putnam and Maksim Kukharchuk each scored 13 points to lead the Tornadoes.

• HASTINGS 68, SIMLEY 60: Senior Sam Skoyen, an all-conference selection the past two seasons, scored 31 points to help the Raiders outlast the Spartans. Sam Stensgard scored 24 to lead the Spartans.

• HILL-MURRAY 77, SOUTH ST. PAUL 51: Senior guard Marshawn Wilson scored 21 points to pace the Pioneers, ranked No. 6 in Class 3A, to the nonconference victory. Senior guard John Engel scored 20 points to lead the Packers.

• ST. THOMAS ACADEMY 78, HENRY SIBLEY 49: Ryan Jacobson had 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Cadets, ranked No. 7 in Class 3A, past the Warriors in a Metro East game.

• CENTENNIAL 78, COON RAPIDS 72: Junior Tyler Peterson scored 29 points and sophomore Alexander Facon scored 20 to lead the Cougars to the Northwest Suburban victory. Chris Buckley led the Cardinals with 19 points.

Eastview finishes strong

• EASTVIEW 49, LAKEVILLE NORTH 37: Madison Guebert scored 25 points to help the Lightning, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, pull away in the second half for the South Suburban victory. The teams were tied 17-17 at halftime, but the Lightning made three three-points early in the second half to take control.

• MINNETONKA 55, EDEN PRAIRIE 51: Courtney Frederickson's 23 points helped the Skippers, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, outlast the Eagles, ranked No. 10 in Class 4A. Rachael Platt led the Eagles with 19 points.

• PARK CENTER 69, SPRING LAKE PARK 37: The Pirates, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, cruised to the Northwest Suburban victory. Hannah Schaub scored 13 points and Mikayla Mayes scored 11 to pace the Pirates.

• HASTINGS 47, SIMLEY 36: Hannah Norman scored 19 points, including her 1,000th career point, to lead the Raiders to the Metro East victory.

HOCKEY • BOYS

• EDEN PRAIRIE 6, GRAND RAPIDS 1: Junior Michael Graham scored three goals and had an assist to lead Eden Prairie, ranked No. 7 in Class 2A, past the Thunderhawks, ranked No. 10 in Class 2A, in the Edina Holiday Classic at Braemar Arena. Casey Mittelstadt had a goal and two assists for the Eagles, who scored twice in the final four minutes of the second period to open a 4-1 lead.

• WACONIA 7, RED WING 6 (OT): Cal Rassman's overtime goal lifted the Wildcats to the come-from-behind victory. Adam Nichols' third goal of the game — assisted by Rassman with 19 seconds left in the third period — tied the score 6-6.

HOCKEY • GIRLS

• HENRY SIBLEY 8, ST. PAUL BLADES 0: Senior Demi Cooper had four goals and two assists as the Warriors skated past the Blades.

ALPINE SKIING

• CHISAGO/WILD MOUNTAIN INVITATIONAL: Two of the state's best, Tommy Anderson of Eagan/Eastview and Rosie Hust of Orono, earned medalist honors in the first large Alpine meet of the season at Wild Mountain in Taylors Falls, Minn. Anderson won the boys' race with a time of 1 minute, 2.84 seconds while Hust took first place in the girls' race in 1:05.24. Hust finished fifth in the state meet a year ago. The Minnetonka boys and the Mankato West girls won the team championships.

NOTES

• Sarah Neitz and Stacy Paleen have been named co-head coaches of the Park of Cottage Grove girls' soccer team. Neitz and Paleen replace Greg Juba, who retired this fall after 33 seasons as the Wolfpack's coach. Juba, the only coach the program has had, coached the Wolfpack to a 431-166-50 record. Neitz and Paleen are both former Wolfpack players and assistant coaches.
