Brooklyn Center secured its first trip to the state tournament since 1983 by upsetting top-seeded Minneapolis North 81-76 to win the Class 2A, Section 5 title game Friday. The No. 2-seeded Centaurs lost a previous matchup to North 55-77.

Sophomore Lu'cye Patterson scored 24 points to lead the Centaurs. The Polars had won back-to-back Class 1A championships before moving up to Class 2A this season.

In other section finals:

Minnehaha Academy 77, New Life Academy 34: Jalen Suggs scored 23 points to lead the defending state champion Red Hawks to victory in the Class 2A, Section 4 title game.

Mayer Lutheran 78, Springfield 75: Cole Hagan scored a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Crusaders over the Tigers. Baden Noennig scored a game-high 29 for Mayer Lutheran.

Adapted floor hockey

PI Division: Johnny Perez scored the game-winning goal for Maple Grove, defeating Dakota United 4-3. … Hannah Oakley had four goals to lead Rochester past Anoka-Hennepin 7-6. Tyler Ezell scored all six goals for the Mustangs. … Brainerd continued its run for a second consecutive state title with a 15-2 win over Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville.

CI Division: Top-seeded St. Cloud beat No. 4 Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville 12-2 in the state quarterfinals. Brian Jones led the Slapshots with six goals and four assists. ... Josh Hamann scored nine goals to lead North Suburban past Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville 13-6.
