BASEBALL: Hopkins handles Eden Prairie

• HOPKINS 5, EDEN PRAIRIE 2: The Eagles are reeling. The Class 3A, No. 5 Royals (11-2) handed No. 4 Eden Prairie (7-4) its fourth consecutive loss Friday in a matchup of Lake Conference powers at Hopkins High School. Winning pitcher Andrew Glover, a senior, gave up two unearned runs and two hits in six innings. Sophomore Logan Athmann pitched the seventh inning for the save. Hopkins seniors third baseman Joey Brettingen and right fielder Tanner Holmquist had three and two hits, respectively. Senior catcher Matt Sinderson drove in two runs for the Royals.

• BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S 2, IRONDALE 0: Senior Marcus Barone threw a four-hit shutout as the Red Knights blanked the Knights in the North Suburban. Benilde-St. Margaret's (8-3) scored one run in each of its last two at bats. Junior John Backes went 2-for-3 and drove in a run. Red Knights senior Joe Melles also had two hits. Sophomore Josh Loken had two of the Knights' four hits.

• MOUNDS VIEW 2, EAST RIDGE 1 (9): Junior Lars Anderson's base hit with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning scored the winning run, giving the Mustangs a victory over the Raptors in Suburban East play. Mustangs senior pitcher Matt Herringshaw worked all nine innings, earning the victory. It was Mounds View's sixth consecutive victory after starting the season 2-4.

• TOTINO-GRACE 3, CHISAGO LAKES 1: The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to beat the Wildcats in the North Suburban. With the score tied 1-1, Matt Leuty provided the go-ahead runs for Totino-Grace (8-2) with a two-run double.

SOFTBALL

• HOPKINS 9, EDINA 1: Morgan Nybo starred at the plate and the mound for the Royals in their victory over the Hornets in the Lake. She went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored at the plate. Nybo also threw a five-hitter while striking out five and walking none while going the distance for the win.

• EAST RIDGE 3, SPRING LAKE PARK 1: Senior Taylor LeMay hit her third home run of the season, and second in as many days, leading the Raptors past the Panthers in a nonconference matchup. LeMay also had a triple. Her homer on Thursday in the top of the seventh inning gave East Ridge a 4-3 victory over Park of Cottage Grove. Eighth-grader Anna Roth also had two hits for the Raptors (7-7).

• EASTVIEW 9, HERMANTOWN 0: Ariana Hipolito had an inside-the-park grand slam as the Lightning beat the Hawks in nonconference play. Hipolito went 3-for-5 and had five RBI on the day.
