Matt Hellickson had a goal and two assists — one on the winning goal — and Cale Morris made 44 saves as No. 5 Notre Dame edged No. 9 Penn State 5-4 on Friday night in Big Ten men's hockey. Matt Steeves' first goal of the season put the visiting Irish ahead 5-3 eight minutes into the third period.

Wisconsin 5, Michigan State 3: Sean Dhooghe, Ty Emberson and Peter Tischke each had a goal and an assist to lead the host Badgers over the Spartans.

Western Michigan 3, No. 4 Minnesota Duluth 2: Hugh McGing and Colt Conrad scored goals in the third period as the Broncos rallied to edge the visiting Bulldogs. Jesse Jacques and Justin Richards had the UMD goals.

No. 2 St. Cloud State 2, Omaha 0: Jack Poehling scored 1:38 into the game and Dave Hrenak stopped 18 shots in the Huskies' victory over the visiting Mavericks. Jimmy Schuyldt had the second SCSU goal, on a power play at 14:29 of the second.

No. 14 North Dakota 4, No. 6 Denver 1: Aside from a late empty-netter, the host Fighting Hawks had only 14 shots on goal but scored on three of them. Mark Senden and Colton Poolman each had a goal and an assist for UND.

No. 3 Minnesota State Mankato 4, Alaska Anchorage 1: Jared Spooner scored in the opening period and Alex Vanko at 3:32 of the second to put the host Mavericks ahead 2-0.

Bemidji State 4, Alabama Huntsville 0: Charlie Combs had a hat trick for the host Beavers.
