Alex Iafallo had a hat trick and an assist as Minnesota Duluth upset No. 1 North Dakota 5-2 in an NCHC opener at Amsoil Arena between the two top-ranked teams in college hockey.

Iafallo had a power-play goal in the opening period for a 1-0 lead for UMD (4-1-2), ranked No. 2 in USCHO.com's national poll. His second goal early in the middle period gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead, and his third goal came unassisted with 28 seconds left in the game.

UND (5-1) got goals from Rhett Gardner and Shane Gersich in the second period.

St. Cloud State 5, Alabama Huntsville 1: The No. 10 Huskies (3-2) scored four goals in the third period to beat the visiting Chargers (2-5-1).

BIG TEN

Wisconsin 5, St. Lawrence 2: Luke Kunin's two goals led the visiting Badgers (3-2) over the No. 18 Saints (3-4).

Ohio State 10, Niagara 2: Nick Schilkey had a hat trick as the No. 15 Buckeyes (4-0-2) routed the host Purple Eagles (0-4-2).

Penn State 4, Canisius 1: Denis Smirnov had a goal and an assist as the No. 19 Nittany Lions (4-1-1) beat the visiting Golden Griffins (2-4-1).

Michigan State 6, Princeton 2: The Spartans (1-4) got their first win with a four-goal second period. Taro Hirose got the eventual winner on a shorthanded goal.

Vermont 3, Michigan 0: The host Catamounts (3-1-1) upset No. 11 Wolverines (3-2-1).

WCHA

Bemidji State 2, Alaska Anchorage 1 (OT): Phillip Marinaccio's second goal of the season, 2:05 into overtime, enabled the No. 20 Beavers (5-2, 5-0 WCHA) to win at home.

MSU Mankato 4, Ferris State 2: Brad McClure scored twice for the No. 9 Mavericks (6-1, 4-1) in Mankato.
