Augusta, Ga.

Ernie Els six-putted the first green on Thursday at The Masters.

Here's what he told the Augusta Chronicle about that:t

``You have snakes and stuff going up in your brrain, you know," he said. ``It's difficult. It's something that..what holds you from doing your normal thing? I don't know what it is. I can go to that putting green now and make 20 straight three-footers. And then you get on the course and you feel a little different and you can't do what you normally do."

That's a great player saying those things. Golf can be cruel.

Minnesota amateur Sammy Schmitz just teed off, and I"ll be following him again today.

I watched him yesterday, and thought he should have shot about a 75 or 76 instead of the 81 he carded.

He had a wedge in hand at the two par-5s on the back nine. If he makes a birdie and a par, that saves four shots. Instead, he made a double and a bogey.

He was upbeat after yesterday's round. Today promises to be sunny and windy. I'll check in later with a report on how he played.
