Residents in six south Minneapolis neighborhoods are not the only ones going to work on Friday mornings. Crooks have been on the job, too.

Over the past several weeks, burglars have been forcing their way into apartment buildings, rental units and garages in the Kingfield, East Harriet, Linden Hills, Fulton, Lynhurst and Tangletown neighborhood on Friday mornings, said Chelsea Adams, a crime prevention specialist for the Minneapolis Police Department.

Since the beginning of the year, thieves have been entering unlocked doors and in some cases forcing open garage service doors and apartment doors. Once inside, the thieves have committed multiple burglaries, Adams said.

"We in the fifth precinct are investigating and we take this seriously," Adams said.

Adams said residents should check their doors to be sure they close tightly and that they have good locks on them. Above all, she said people should lock their doors at all times, even if they are out in the yard or just going down the hall to get the mail.

The morning burglaries "can catch you off guard," Adams said. "Trends in crime change rapidly."

No one has been arrested. Anybody with information about the burglaries can call 612-673-2815.
