This weekend, cold air will try to get out of the way of a moist flow coming upfrom the south, but it will fail. That spells trouble. On Saturday night, sleetand freezing rain will break out through the western part of North Carolina andVirginia. From there, the icy mess is likely to spread northward into centralPennsylvania, eventually getting into upstate New York and westernMassachusetts. Be prepared for some slippery travel through the interiorNortheast, especially early on Sunday. Some flights could also be delayed or cancelled. However, this will not be amajor icing event that causes widespread power outages or downed trees.

Of course across the north country, any sleet or freezing rain that moves in onSunday will be nothing compared to the lake-effect blizzards that have beencrippling travel since Wednesday night.

Only the Adirondack region and northern Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine willget mostly snow from this next system, and even then the snow will be on thelight side. Generally 1-3 inches of accumulation is expected.
