Yes, it's been well documented for months now that the Vikings have hopes of making significant upgrades to their defensive backfield. It's a must following a lousy 2011 season and considering the lethal passing attacks present throughout the NFC North. And while once upon a time we analyzed the possibility of young up-and-coming cornerback Brandon Carr lending help to the cause, the Vikings suddenly have a new Carr in mind.
According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, cornerback Chris Carr will soon take a free agent visit with the Vikings. Carr will turn 29 next month and is heading into his eighth NFL season. He has spent the last three years with Baltimore after previous stops with the Raiders (2005-07) and Titans (2008). Carr is listed at 5-foot-10 and 182 pounds. He has good quickness and instincts and has the versatility to be effective against the run as well as the pass.
Carr started all 16 games for the Ravens in 2010 but was limited to nine games and one start last season due in part to a back injury. The Ravens, who found an effective replacement last season in Jimmy Smith, decided to release Carr earlier this month. According to LaCanfora, Carr is also visiting with Kansas City.
