Choreographer Margaret Marinoff attempts to lift the colors and movement of an artist's paintbrush onto the stage. Beginning with a piece in which three dancers are enclosed in actual frames, the lyrical performance brings its source material into three dimensions. The strongest piece, "Swell of the Sea," creates a swirling homage to Ran Ortner's realistic paintings of ocean waves. Costumed in flowing water dresses, the dancers employ a large billowing cloth to capture Ortner's dramatic interpretation of the sea. The student dancers bring a quiet grace to the work. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
