Fourth Major in Four Days

January 21, 2010 at 8:25PM

The fourth major in four days... Sounds like the grand slam in professionalgolf, doesn't it? However, this is in reference to the big hits California hastaken this week. The storms started rolling in off the Pacific Ocean on Mondayand haven't stopped since.Rainfall has been very heavy exceeding 10 inches in upslope areas that facetoward the west or southwest. Snowfall has been equally impressive with over 6feet on top of the Sierra-Nevada mountain range.

The last storm in the series is crossing California now with its impact beingfelt into Arizona and southern Utah. By Friday, the storm's worst will befocused across Arizona, southern Colorado and New Mexico.

Note that this is not the type of storm that brings snow to eastern Colorado, western Kansas and the Texas Panhandle. A downsloping west wind off the Rockieswill make sure that doesn't happen.
