In a show of support, members of Eastview's baseball team watched Lightning boys' lacrosse players win a state championship last week.
That's right, a boys' athletics team from Eastview finally won a team title 15 years after the doors opened.
Now, can some of the magic wear off to make it two titles in as many weeks? That's certainly Eastview's hope.
After three section championship game losses, including last spring to eventual Class 3A champion Burnsville, the Lightning grabbed a state title berth.
Eastview rolled through the Section 3 tournament, allowing just four runs through four games to earn the berth.
The Lighting (19-5) opens state play at 3 p.m. Thursday against Red Wing at Midway Stadium.
It faces a Wingers team that has just one blemish on the schedule -- an 8-4 loss at Chanhassen in early May. Otherwise, it's been a dream season for the Wingers (22-1), who averaged more than seven runs per game in their section tournament.
That, however, is not high on Tom Strey's list of concerns. He's far more interested in seeing what else Lightning players have up their sleeves.
