Here's the news of the day, from Stewart and Heidi Woodman, co-owners of Heidi's: The restaurant is closing on Dec. 31st.

The couple opened the original Heidi's Minneapolis in 2007 in a slip of a spot at 50th Street and Bryant Av. S. in Minneapolis, and it was an instant hit. The restaurant was destroyed by fire in February 2010, and less than a year later the Woodmans took their vision to Lyn-Lake, creating a singular four-star experience. The closing is a major loss for the Twin Cities dining scene.

The Woodmans arrived in Minneapolis (Heidi's hometown) in 2003 and Stewart was the first of the two of them to make an impact, opening four-star Levain.

Two and a half-years later, husband and wife (she's an accomplished pastry chef) teamed up to launch the ambitious but short-lived Five Restaurant & Street Lounge. Their comeback was the extraordinary Heidi's, versions 1 and 2.

Here's the content of their announcement:

Part of our Heidi's Minneapolis heritage is that we want to create extraordinary food that has a lasting impression, and we're driven by an artistic vision that is constantly evolving. After six years of bringing an exquisite fine dining experience to the Twin Cities, we're excited to shift gears to work on our new culinary vision for the next six years and beyond. In an effort to focus on the next page in our story, Heidi's 2.0 will close its doors for regular service on December 31, 2013.

But no tears please! We invite you to join us for one of Minneapolis's most superb dining experiences before the end of the year. We're proud of what the Heidi's 2.0 team has brought to diners, and, we promise to share more details on Heidi's 3.0 in the coming months.
