MINNEAPOLIS — A former television anchor won't run for Congress.

Former WCCO-TV reporter Don Shelby says the current gridlocked Congress is not a place where important issues can be resolved.

National Democrats approached Shelby to consider running for the 3rd District Congressional seat held by Republican Congressman Erik Paulsen, who is currently serving his third term.

Shelby tells WCCO-TV (http://cbsloc.al/16zfGfr) he's not willing to give up time with his family or his 50-year career as a journalist.

Shelby says he's not comfortable getting labeled a Democrat or Republican. He says he's neither.

Shelby says he hopes to continue writing about the environment and climate change, and to raise money to build a mental health center for children.
