Former Vikings assistant coach Foge Fazio has died after a battle with cancer, according to multiple media reports. He was 71.
A family member told Pittsburgh television station WTAE that Fazio passed away on Wednesday afternoon. Fazio played college football at Pitt and later was an assistant coach and then the head coach at the school.
He had two stints with the Vikings. He was the defensive coordinator from 1995 to 1999 under Dennis Green and then returned during the 2005 season to serve as a part-time defensive consultant for coach Mike Tice.
