Former Republican Congressman Jim Ramstad endorsed Erik Paulsen's re-election to represent the Third District seat Ramstad held for 18 years.

"I've already voted for Erik Paulsen again this year," Ramstad said in a statement released by the Paulsen campaign. "He's been a steady voice for Minnesota's Third District in a very polarized time in American politics."

The endorsement by Ramstad comes a day after Paulsen's Democratic challenger, state Sen. Terri Bonoff of Minnetonka, said Paulsen's conservative views on social issues, climate change and gun control are at odds with the moderate-leaning district.

Bonoff held up Ramstad as an example of a Republican who better fit the district, adding that she had previously voted for him. Ramstad represented the district from 1991 through 2009.
