A former associate professor begged for forgiveness while pleading guilty on Monday to luring a 16-year-old Farmington girl into thinking she was at a modeling shoot, while he was really taking lewd photos for his own use.
Sunil J. Ramlall, 38, of Lakeville, pleaded guilty to use of a minor in a sexual performance and had four other felony counts dismissed. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to pay a $300 fine and restitution.
He must also serve five years on probation, register as a predatory sexual offender and complete treatment.
In Hastings on Monday, Ramlall tearfully apologized to the teen, her mother and his own family. He is no longer employed by Hamline University, where police searched his office before he was charged a year ago.
Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom called Ramlall's acts "outrageous" and victimizing.
"This was extremely disturbing conduct that traumatized a young girl," he said. "We are pleased to have brought the defendant to justice."
Ramlall had admitted to authorities that he posed as a modeling agent.
During a photo shoot in a conference room at the Dakota County Western Service Center in Apple Valley, Ramlall took numerous pictures of the girl in revealing clothes that he supplied.
