Questions and answers with Forest Lake wrestler Austin Boniface.
Forest Lake is ranked No. 3 in Class 3A. How good is your team? We're solid all the way through the lineup. We're looking to go to state and finish high.
Your coach, Billy Pierce, was a great wrestler in his own right. What is it like learning from him? He knows a lot of stuff. He's a great guy and really fun, but he works us really hard. But that's why we're good.
What is the toughest part of your workouts? I'd probably say our sprints in the wrestling room. Sometimes we do, like, 20 minutes straight at the end of practice, usually after we're already tired.
Individually, you're No. 8 in the Class 3A rankings at 152 pounds. Does that mean anything to you? It's nice to see I'm ranked, but it doesn't bother me at all. I always just try to go out and wrestle like it's my last match.
Describe your style: I like to scramble. I'm pretty active and fast-moving. I think I'm fun to watch.
Forest Lake wrestled in The Clash Duals in December. What do you get out of a tournament that big? It's a completely different level of competition. It's super fun. We've been there two years now, and both times I've come out of it a better wrestler.
What is your biggest victory this season? When I beat Chase Monger of Eden Prairie. He was beating me, but I came back and ended up pinning him. It felt good to pull it out.
