Members of the Forest Lake Area High School alpine ski team were involved in a fatal crash Tuesday morning while on their way to the state meet in Biwabik.

No one riding in the team's vehicle, a Chevy Suburban, was injured, but a passenger in the other car, a Toyota Camry, was killed.

According to the State Patrol, the ski team's sport-utility vehicle was traveling north on Hwy. 33 in Cloquet when it collided with the Camry, which was traveling south on Hwy. 33 when it turned onto northbound Interstate 35. The patrol said roads were dry about 10:15, when the crash occurred.

Killed in the Camry was 24-year-old Autumn Martineau of Cloquet, according to the State Patrol. Shawn Adrian, 33, of Cloquet, was the driver of the Camry, according to the State Patrol. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, and he was taken to the hospital in Cloquet.

Grant Lindemer, the team's coach, was driving the Suburban with six student athletes. They were all taken to Community Memorial Hospital to be checked over for injuries, said Aaron Forsythe, the Forest Lake district's athletic director. The team's assistant coach drove a second Suburban with two other skiers. That vehicle was not involved in the crash.

Forsythe said he drove to Biwabik on Tuesday so that he could meet with the team after the crash.

The team will race as planned on Wednesday.
