Forest Lake schools locked down Wednesday after weapon rumored

A student at Forest Lake Area High School who was rumored to have brought a gun to school Wednesday was apprehended during a lockdown in the afternoon.

The student had no gun and was released from custody, but an investigation continues, said Capt. Greg Weiss of the Forest Lake Police Department.

About 11:25 a.m., high school staff received a report of a student who was believed to have been carrying a weapon of some type, Weiss said. In response, the high school was put into lockdown for about 30 minutes, as were Century Junior High School and the district school office.

After police found the student and took him into custody, the lockdown was lifted from all three buildings, Weiss said.

"We are pleased to report that our staff acted very quickly and effectively in response to this situation, and our internal security measures functioned as designed," Forest Lake Area Schools said in a statement.
