An armed robber shot an employee in the abdomen inside a Forest Lake restaurant after closing time Tuesday and fled with cash, authorities said.

The holdup occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday at Don Julio's restaurant on Lake Street S., just west of Hwy. 61, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, whose identity has yet to be released, was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He was in stable condition and expected to survive, the Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities did not say how much money was stolen.

The suspect was described by the victim as a white male, about 19 years old, with blond hair roughly 8 inches long. He was wearing a white T-shirt.

The employee did not know the gunman, said Sheriff's Capt. Greg Weiss.
