Wednesday's regular season football finale includes No. 7 Maple Grove at Champlin Park, a showdown for the inaugural Northwest Suburban Conference North Division title.
Maple Grove (7-0) attained undefeated status after Osseo forfeited two games for using an ineligible player. Champlin Park (5-2) started the year ranked in the top 10 but dropped its first two games to defending big-school champion Eden Prairie and Hopkins. Since then the Rebels are unbeaten.
Champlin Park beat the Crimson 24-3 last season. Both teams reside in Class 6A, Section 5, making this game important to postseason seeding.
Roering's milestoneCentennial senior forward Jenna Roering scored her 100th career goal during a 6-1 victory over Spring Lake Park on Oct. 9 in the Class 2A, Section 5 quarterfinals.
Roering and the second- seeded Cougars played host to No. 5 seed Irondale in the Section 5 championship game Tuesday after this edition went to press.
Blaine volleyball rollingBlaine, the No. 1 seed at the Class 3A volleyball state tournament a year ago, hasn't lost a step. The Bengals won the Eastview tournament title last weekend, running their record to 24-1 on the season.
A big test awaited Tuesday night after this edition went to press. Blaine played host to an Anoka team that went into the match with an identical 9-0 record in the Northwest Suburban Conference.
Cougars, Elks race to conference titlesCentennial's boys' cross-country team scored 45 points to win the Northwest Suburban Conference meet held Oct. 11 at Elk River Golf Club. On the girls' side, Elk River was right at home, scoring 81 points in victory.
