Florida Soaking to Interfere with Spring Break

March 10, 2010 at 8:25PM

Much to the dismay of many college students and families vacationing in Floridathis Spring Break, the Sunshine State will not live up to its nickname onFriday. Drenching thunderstorms not only threaten to ruin outdoor plans butcould also trigger flooding.Though showers and thunderstorms will rumble to the north, the heaviestthunderstorms will target central and southern Florida. This includes DaytonaBeach, Orlando and Tampa. Friday night is when the drenching thunderstorms willbe most numerous in Miami.

The potential exists for 2 to 4 inches of rain to pour down. Flash flooding mayinundate low-lying and urban areas, as well as places along small streams.

In addition to heavy rain, a few stronger thunderstorms may also ignite overSouth Florida. Damaging winds and isolated tornadoes would be the greatestthreats.
