January 11, 2010 at 8:25PM

A storm unleashing widespread soaking rain will take aim at the Gulf Coastregion later this week.Beginning on Thursday in eastern Texas, soaking rain will break out as thestorm gathers near the western Gulf Coast. From here, the rain will expand intoto the central Gulf states on Friday, then to Georgia, Florida and even theCarolinas on Friday night and Saturday.

Rainfall of 1 to 3 inches could be widespread with this storm with locallyhigher amounts of up to 6 inches. The heaviest rain will fall along the GulfCoast. This, following a season of unusually high rainfall, could lead to someflooding. Some of the computer models are indicating that very heavy rain couldfall across central Texas and through central portions of the Gulf states, perhaps leading to flash flooding.

A soaking rain coming in the aftermath of widespread frost and freeze wouldhave a negative impact on Florida's agriculture.
