A series of low pressure systems moving westward over the Philippines will lead to devastating flooding through the weekend.

Since Wednesday, many areas of the Philippines have recorded over 4 inches of rain, with local amounts up to 8 inches. Through the weekend another 2 to 4 inches of rain will fall, with local amounts exceeding 8 inches.

The result of the heavy rain will be widespread flooding throughout the nation. Along with the heavy rain comes the threat for life-threatening mudslides.

In addition, there is the concern that an area of low pressure currently east of the Philippines could become a tropical storm prior to reaching the Philippines this weekend. If that were to happen, rainfall totals could exceed 12 inches and would be accompanied by strong, gusty winds.
