Flooding Potential in the Northeast

April 6, 2009 at 4:30PM

A soaking rain and thunderstorms are in store for the mid-Atlantic andNortheast coast today and tonight as a storm that once produced a blizzard onthe central Plains moves across the Great Lakes region.Widespread rainfall will range from 1-2 inches in the Northeast, includingthe heart of the I-95 corridor. Local rainfall will exceed 3 inches. Thisrainfall will be enough for urban and small stream flooding.

Drenching rain will combine with snowmelt in northern New England to producea flooding threat that will not only extend to some urban areas, such asPortland, Maine, and Burlington, Vt., and small streams, but could also causerises along some of the area's rivers.
