A soaking rain and thunderstorms are in store for the mid-Atlantic and Northeast coast today and tonight as a storm that once produced a blizzard on the central Plains moves across the Great Lakes region.

Widespread rainfall will range from 1-2 inches in the Northeast, including the heart of the I-95 corridor. Local rainfall will exceed 3 inches. This rainfall will be enough for urban and small stream flooding.

Drenching rain will combine with snowmelt in northern New England to produce a flooding threat that will not only extend to some urban areas, such as Portland, Maine, and Burlington, Vt., and small streams, but could also cause rises along some of the area's rivers.
