Grand Rapids area

Ben's Bait reports anglers are catching walleyes on Winnie, Sand and Bowstring lakes in 6 to 15 feet using fathead minnows and silver shiners with 1/8- to 1/16-ounce blue or green jigs. The harbor area on Pokegama and the north side of Bowstring also has been producing crappies.

Mille Lacs Lake

Walleye fishing has picked up, according to Johnson's Portside. Best bet during the day is around rocks in 12 to 16 feet using shiner or fathead minnows or leeches.

Nisswa-Brainerd area

S&W Bait reports excellent crappie fishing in the shallows in Gull and the shores of Pelican using crappie minnows, Flu Flu jigs and puddle jumpers. Some walleyes at Grassy Point in Gull using spottails, shiners or rainbows in about 15 feet.

Chisago City area

Frankie's Bait reports anglers are catching walleyes after 5 p.m. in 6 to 12 feet on the sand and gravel at the south end of Chisago Lake and during the day at the north end of North Center Lake in 8 to 16 feet using large leeches and fathead minnows.

Bemidji area

Taber's Bait reports walleye action in Andrusia has been fair in 12 feet and shallower using spottail shiners. In Cass Lake, angling has been slow and in Lake Bemidji, it's been above average in 18 feet and shallower using spottail shiners and chartreuse jigs. Anglers in Turtle Lake are catching fish in 12 feet using shiners and jigs.

Annandale area

Little Jim's Sports reports crappies are hitting in 2 to 8 feet in the bays of area lakes using leeches or crappie minnows and Flu Flu jigs and the Berkley Atomic Teaser (a new bait similar to the Berkley Power Bait). Anglers have been catching walleyes in Clearwater and Sylvia lakes in 4 to 12 feet on shiners, leeches and crank baits.
