A fire Monday night in a West Broadway building that houses several retail outlets sent black-gray smoke skyward over north Minneapolis.

The blaze broke out about 9:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of West Broadway, just west of Irving Avenue N., according to a witness and one of the business owners.

The fire, brought under control in a little more than an hour, appeared to be concentrated in Santana's Market, based on photos the witness posted on Facebook.

No injuries were reported.

The other businesses in the building are an Unbank money transfer outlet and Prima Class African Hair Braiding, whose operator said she would not be open Tuesday.

Fire officials have not said how the blaze began or revealed other details.
