A fire in a south Minneapolis group home forced the evacuation Thursday of more than a dozen people who lived there.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and a fire on the second floor and in the attic when they arrived about 7 p.m. at the two-and-half story home, 2524 Portland Ave. Firefighters helped three residents get out of the home; the others got out on their own.

One person was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-lifethreatening injuries.

The Red Cross was called to assist about dozen adults and four children who live in the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
