Fire destroys much of Green Bay-area apartment complex; about 50 residents displaced

HOWARD, Wis. — About 50 people are without homes after a fire destroyed most of an apartment complex in the town of Howard.

The Green Bay Press Gazette reports Sunday that flames were reported at the Northern Pines Luxury Apartments late on Saturday afternoon (http://gbpg.net/12kRt8H). All residents were evacuated successfully but some say they lost everything. It took firefighters from Howard, Green Bay and Pulaski several hours to extinguish the blaze, and the south end of the 24-unit building was a total loss.

The Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire was not immediately apparent and is under investigation.
