A St. Paul gas station remains closed today as investigators try to determine what caused a fire early this morning.

The blaze began in a back storage room of a BP station where cases of motor oil, hydraulic oil, propane tanks, paper products and uniforms are kept, said St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard.

The fire, which was reported at 1:47 a.m., spread throughout the store at the intersection of Wheelock Parkway and Interstate Hwy. 35E, and caused $20,000 damage, Zaccard said.

No one was injured in the fire.

The Health Department was called in to check the damage Wednesday morning.
